SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM SAGE

As I reflect on this year,  I think everyone would agree it has been difficult, challenging and left all of us longing for the day when we can be together again.  While I don’t know when that will be possible, SAGE, Adult Programming and UPC are still here and still serving our community.  Following are some statistics showing how often and all the ways people are connecting with us.

Daily SAGE Calls                                            761 seniors have joined
One on One Contacts                                    1481 individual communication
Adult Daily Calls                                               484 adults have joined
Other Programming                                          156 special programs
AARP Smiths Gift Cards                                    30 households served
LGBTQ+ Veterans Day Flags Distributed
(Partnership with Utah VA)                                55 flags mailed/hand delivered
Computer Program                                              20 seniors receiving computers
Newsletter Opens                                            5046 monthly SAGE newsletter

In addition we had a memory box give away through the Utah Queer Historical Society, had a successful Road Rally and have had steady readership of our newsletter every month.  We are also currently in the middle of a very successful holiday market in partnership with Clever Octopus.

A big shout out to all of you who continue to support us. It means a lot to have folks join the calls, support our programming efforts and stay connected. I look forward to seeing even more people in the new year.  We may not be able to meet in person, but we can meet online, on the phone, through text, through email, or in whatever way is most comfordiv for you.  I know online programming is different than meeting in person, but it sure beats not seeing anyone at all!

FREE OFFER!
On a completely different note, for those of you who like to color, I have an adult coloring book I would like to send you along with a program I created on mindfulness.  I have 40 sets, so if you would like one, please send your name and mailing address to [email protected] and I will mail them out mid-December.  It will be first come, first serve.  (I cannot hand deliver these, so I will need your mailing address.)

My wish to each of you is a happy, safe and healthy holiday season.  It truly is my honor and pleasure to work for the seniors in this community.  Thank you for your support, your kind words and your encouragement.  It has been a tough year for all of us, but together we’ll get through it to the other side.  Have a very happy holiday season, however you choose to celebrate.

COMPUTER HELP

For those struggling with computers or for those who may have computers but do not have internet service, this may be the answer for you.

Digital Navigators

The City Library recognizes the life-changing significance of access to digital resources. Our new Digital Navigator team can help local residents get connected to free or low-cost internet service and devices, along with basic computer skills and training. Those in need can schedule a one-on-one appointment by calling 801-524-8200.

The Library’s Digital Navigators will be working alongside University Neighborhood Partners, Suazo Business Center, and Catholic Community Services. This project is made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

3e8ba3a5 9475 46c9 b41a 990fba5036d5

The Utah Pride Center and Clever Octopus have teamed up for their second annual Not Yo’ Mama’s Winter Market!

COVID-19 has changed how we celebrate the holidays with those we love most. Let them know you’re thinking about them with a one-of-a-kind gift from our featured local artists.

How it works: Browse through our featured products and follow links to the artists online shops, which will include more information on payment, shipping, pick-up and delivery options.

The market will continue through December 18th.  Shop with over 30 vendors by visiting the website below

Holiday Sale 2020
Cathy House is a very talented artist in our community and was a popular vendor at our holiday market last year.  Due to a technical snafu, we weren’t able to add her to our online market.  We wanted to make sure people had an opportunity to shop her items again.

From Cathy:  Many unique gifts available just in time for the holiday season! Click on photos for descriptions. See something you like? Contact me through Facebook Messenger @Cathy House for more information including better photos and pricing, and payment and pick-up options. Local (Salt Lake City, UT and nearby areas) sales only. Gift wrapping and delivery available for a bit extra.

UTAH QUEER HISTORICAL SOCIETY (UQHS)

Did you know that UQHS is a program of the Utah Pride Center?  Do you find history fascinating? Would you like to know more about our Utah queer history?

Our community has a history of struggles, hard won rights, oppression, advocacy and much more.  UQHS works hard to preserve this history.

We are currently in the planning stages of a few BIG projects, both honoring history and creating history.  We want to add some new people to our team as we grow this program and make a big splash in our community.

If you are interested in joining us, please send your contact information to Roy Li Zhang, Chair of UQHS.  [email protected]

For some interesting stories, check out the UQHS page on our website.  https://utahpridecenter.org/queer-utah-ancestors

IN LOVING MEMORY

Remembering one of our Logan SAGE members, Cheryl Ann Clark, who passed away November 15.  Cheryl was both a player and a coach for the basketball team The All American Red Heads .  This team has been compared to the Harlem Globe Trotters, but was comprised of all women!  Cheryl was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.  Cheryl had been living in Logan for many years and had been an active member in SAGE.  She will be missed by her fellow Logan Sagers.
