The Utah Pride Center has a long history of hosting many of our communities most favorite and fun events. The success of these events has allowed our community center to grow and provide life saving services and programs throughout the entire year. Like so many other organization such as theaters, event venues, sporting arenas, event rental companies and many more whose income depends upon the gathering of large numbers of people, this pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on their ability to survive.
Event revenues in 2019 accounted for roughly 50% of the Utah Pride Center’s annual budget. To warrant against over dependency of these events, designated funds were set aside in case of an emergency. However, no amount of planning could prepare for the devastating impact of Covid-19.
Knowing how much our LGBTQ+ community enjoys celebrating, we have developed a Covid safe event that will safely bring those wishing to get out and do something fun a safe alternative, and those who feel more comfortable at home, the ability to participate virtually.
On Sunday, October 11th, National Coming Out Day, we will host our first annual Utah Pride Road Rally. Sunday morning we envision hundreds of vehicles and bikes as they rendezvous at 14 predetermined location all along the Wasatch Front. From there they will follow their Pace Car and caravan to downtown Salt Lake City to converge onto Main Street and drag main street with us.
Teams will register in advance and help raise the needed funds to support the Utah Pride Center’s life saving programs and services. Teams will be allowed to register in 12 difference Road Rally Classes (categories) and be recognized for reaching one of four fundraising challenge levels. Additionally, the top fundraising teams in each category will be awarded for their outstanding efforts.
