Media/Newsroom Accuracy

The Utah Pride Center is committed to ensuring that local television, radio, and print media outlets report fairly and accurately about GLBT issues and people. In addition to monitoring and responding to defamatory, homophobic, and inaccurate media, we offer our newsroom trainings to reporters, editors, and producers of TV, print, and radio media outlets.

During this training, our staff evaluates the outlet's coverage over the last year to identify problem areas and offer solutions, and we provide trainees with the most current professional journalistic standards and style guides for reporting about GLBT topics. Additionally, they clarify definitions, discuss offensive and problematic terminology, and provide tips on how to report news in a balanced and inclusive manner.
